Vol. 123 No. 8

- Price of Beef Dripping.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has satisfied himself as to whether the price of 1/2 per lb. charged to the consumer for beef dripping represents gross and extortionate profiteering at the expense of the consumer; and, if so, what action he proposes to take.

The price of dripping (whether derived from cattle or sheep) has been controlled by Order since early 1940. Since February, 1944, the maximum retail price has been 1/- per lb. I am satisfied that, in present circumstances, this represents a fair and reasonable price to the consumer and I propose to take no action in the matter.
