Vol. 123 No. 8

- Cleaning of River.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any proposals have yet been made under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, for the cleaning up of the Ilen River, Skibbereen; and, if not, if he will urge on the local authority the preparation of such a scheme in view of its urgent necessity.

No proposals under the Local Authorities (Works) Act have been submitted by either the Cork County Council or the Skibbereen Urban District Council for work on the Ilen River. In regard to the second part of the question, the selection of suitable works to be put forward for approval for execution with the aid of a grant is a matter for each local authority in the first instance and I do not interfere in that selection.
