Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land War Victims.

Pádraig Ó Cuinneáin

asked the Minister for Lands if there are any verified claims of victims of the land war, or their direct descendants, still unsettled; and, if so, how many, and why their claims have not been settled.

I presume the Deputy is referring to evicted tenants as defined in Section 2 (d) Irish Land Act, 1903, and Section 31 (i) (c), Land Act, 1923. It is the practice to deal with claims by evicted tenants, or their representatives, according as land becomes available in the district in which the evictions are stated to have taken place. The vast majority of claims have been disposed of and any authentic and eligible cases still outstanding will receive such favourable consideration as the Land Commission may find possible.
