Vol. 123 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Repairs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what steps have been taken to have Purteen, Keel and Darbey's Point Harbours repaired and if any money has been allocated for this work.

An inspection of Purteen (Keel) Harbour was recently made at which local and county council representatives were present and certain improvement works were agreed upon as being necessary in the fishery interest. A preliminary estimate of the cost of these works is at present being made and is expected to be available at an early date. I will then be in a position to make a recommendation as to what proportion of the cost might be met by a State grant.

As regards Darbey's Point Harbour, the Mayo County Council were asked by my Department in March, 1947, to furnish a plan and estimate of cost in connection with their proposal for the construction of a jetty. These particulars have not yet been received and no further steps can be taken in the matter by my Department without them.
