Vol. 123 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Estate.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, pending legislation to enable the Remount farm at Lusk to be taken over and divided, it will be ensured that the land is let only in small plots of about five acres, thereby giving an opportunity to the small market gardeners and the landless men of the area to rent some of the land, and further, if steps will be taken to ensure that the letting of the land is done by public auction and not by tender.

Arrangements for the letting of the land for the 1951 season have already been made. Letting in small plots, as suggested by the Deputy, would, I am advised, present numerous difficulties and I am not prepared to alter the present system.

Even though there may be those difficulties to which the Parliamentary Secretary has referred, would he not consider it advisable to try to overcome them in some way?

The main difficulty is that we would have to fence the land if we were to divide it up into fiveacre plots. However, I will look into this matter and see if it is possible to do something.
