Vol. 124 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Butter Production.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the quantity of creamery butter produced in each of the years 1946 to 1950, inclusive, and whether facilities for the storage and production of butter have been improved since February, 1948.

The quantity of creamery butter produced in each of the years from 1946 to 1950, inclusive, was as follows:—

1946

551,601 cwt.

1947

518,666 cwt.

1948

570,723 cwt.

1949

687,512 cwt.

1950

736,868 cwt.

The capacity of the cold storage accommodation in the country has been increased since 1948, but butter is only one of a number of commodities for which this accommodation is used. It will be observed that creamery butter production has increased by 42 per cent. since 1947 and the existing facilities are ample to deal with all the milk which is likely to become available.
