Vol. 124 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Minimum Price.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether it is proposed to fix a minimum price for turf produced for sale by private persons; and, if so, what price these persons may expect.

I am satisfied that there will be a ready and remunerative market this year for turf produced for sale by private persons, and that there will be no need to fix a minimum price for such turf. The indications are that a market will be available for all good quality turf which is offered for sale by producers at a reasonable price.

In view of the existence of what is now admitted by the Government to be a fuel crisis, would the Government not think it worth their while to give a minimum guarantee to everybody that they will not change their minds again and kill the turf industry?
