Vol. 124 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Government (Superannuation) Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what steps are being taken to overcome the difficulties in the working of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act.

The operation of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, is being kept under constant review in my Department with a view to the preparation in due course of proposals for legislation which will amend and improve the Act in whatever respects experience of its operation show to be necessary and desirable.

Would the Minister not agree that this Act has already been shown, by such working of it as has been seen up to now, to be a totally unsuitable piece of legislation, bringing hardship on the workers throughout the country?

Ministers should be asked on questions of fact and not of opinion.

That is a fact.
