Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Gaeltacht Housing Acts.

andHonor M. Crowley asked the Minister for Lands whether he intends to introduce proposals for legislation to amend the Gaeltacht Housing Acts, 1929-49, so as to give local authorities the same powers relative to these Acts as those given them in Sections 7 and 8 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950.

The matter referred to by the Deputies is under consideration.

Will the Minister say when a decision will be reached?

I am sorry, but I cannot say when a decision will be reached.

As this is a matter of very considerable importance to the people of the Gaeltacht, I ask the Minister to give it very careful consideration, because, as he knows, the people of the Gaeltacht at present are at a great disadvantage in the matter of housing as compared with those people who apply for grants under the general housing legislation passed by this House.
