Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Oats and Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will make available sufficient supplies of seed oats and potatoes to smallholders in South Kerry; and, if so, whether he will ensure that these supplies are allocated early in the month of March.

The quantities of seed oats and seed potatoes allocated for distribution in South Kerry this season under my Department's seed distribution scheme should be ample for the purpose of the scheme, which is to provide a change of seed for smallholders in the areas in which the scheme operates.

The seed will be delivered in good time for sowing.

Is the Minister aware that last year the allocation was not sufficient and a supplementary allocation had to be made? In view of that will the Minister take steps now to ensure that ample supplies will be available in the first instance?

I am advised that ample stocks are on their way to Kerry.
