Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Harbour Facilities.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Cork Harbour Oil Wharves, Limited, are abandoning their tenancy of the Haulbowline oil storage facilities; and, if so, whether he will state the steps he intends taking for (1) the completion of the jetty, and (2) the provision of facilities for the bunkering of ships in the harbour; and, further, if he will have the matter examined immediately by the Industrial Development Authority.

I am aware that Cork Harbour Oil Wharves, Ltd., have notified their intention of abandoning their tenancy of property leased to them at Haulbowline, County Cork. I understand that the question of the completion of the jetty is being considered by the Commissioners of Public Works who placed the contract for the work and that the Industrial Development Authority has received a deputation which wished to make representations as to the consequences of the abandonment of the facilities which would have been afforded by Cork Harbour Oil Wharves, Ltd.

I have no functions in regard to the bunkering of ships in Cork Harbour.
