Vol. 124 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Barrow Drainage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state why the work of dredging the canal and cleaning the back drains on the river Barrow, from Leighlin-bridge to St. Mullins, hitherto carried out by the Grand Canal Company, has ceased and whether he will have representations made to Córas Iompair Éireann to have this very necessary work continued.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that the dredging of the canal is not a continuous operation and is carried out as and when required for navigation purposes. The work of cleaning the back drains was carried out as usual last year and will be done again during the coming summer.
