Vol. 124 No. 6

Issue of Tickets for Public Gallery.

I wish to ask for your guidance on a matter. I do not know whether this is the proper place to mention it, but it is a question of the privilege of Deputies. I was asked by some friends to-day to have them admitted to the House——

Admittance to the gallery is under the control of the Ceann Comhairle. One Deputy complained, I think, already that the gallery was not full. There is no gallery there as far as this House is concerned, by the way; there are no visitors there either. The Deputy concerned I think got a ticket; no Deputy is entitled to two tickets on special occasions. On this occasion, the Ceann Comhairle thought it wise, after consultations, that particular care should be exercised. That care was exercised and that ends the matter. Deputies have no privilege in the matter. They get a ticket. They are not entitled to three or four, because if each got a ticket the seats would be all filled.

May I put this to you? After having been informed that I could only have one ticket, four other Deputies agreed to sponsor the particular individuals and they were refused admission by the office.

I can see the Deputy about that afterwards.
