Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Turf Banks in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that a number of persons from Dublin City and County who are anxious to get turf banks and to cut their own turf have been unable to procure turf banks and, if so, whether he will direct the Dublin County Council to acquire bogs and to rent them to suitable applicants.

I have had no representations that persons from Dublin City and County who are anxious to get turf banks in Dublin County have been unable to do so.

While I have no power to direct a local authority to acquire bogs for renting, the Dublin County Council together with all other local authorities has been urged to encourage and facilitate private turf production by acquiring and developing where necessary, bogs for letting to persons unable to meet their needs otherwise. Any persons anxious to get a turf bank in County Dublin and unable to do so should apply to the county council.
