Vol. 124 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Development.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the amount of the telephone capital expenditure to date, and whether he proposes to look for a further loan to continue telephone development.

A total of £8,750,000 has been made available for capital development of the telephone service under the Telephone Capital Acts, 1924-1946. It is estimated that the sum of £6,000,000 provided under the Telephone Capital Act, 1946, will be exhausted before the end of the coming financial year. Further capital provision for continued development of the telephone service will be required and arrangements to promote the necessary legislation are being made.
