Vol. 125 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quick Freezing Plants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will set up quick freezing plants at several centres to preserve the catches of fish of our inshore fishermen in order to obviate the necessity of importing any fish and to secure a constant supply, especially to inland consumers.

The Sea Fisheries Association is installing a quick freezing plant with related cold storage accommodation at Killybegs. This unit is expected to come into use about August next, and on the results of its operation over a period a decision will be made as to whether such facilities should be provided at other places on the coast.
