Vol. 126 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase of Guaranteed Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is now prepared to increase guaranteed prices for producers of wheat, beet, bacon and milk supplied to creameries and further, whether he is prepared to alter the summer and winter periods for milk prices.

The position in regard to wheat prices will be fully considered before the Statutory Wheat Order relating to the 1951 crop is made.

With regard to bacon, I presume the Deputy has in mind the question of the amount of the minimum assured price for pigs. The position in this respect is regulated by the agreement recently made by my predecessor with the British Minister of Food.

As regards milk, I would refer the Deputy to the replies I gave yesterday to a number of questions on this subject.

The price of sugar beet does not fall within the province of the Minister for Agriculture.
