Vol. 126 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accommodation for Nurses.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that considerable inconvenience is caused to the nursing sisters attached to the County Hospital, Tralee, by reason of the fact that there is lack of suitable living accommodation there and, further, if he will approve of the proposals submitted to him by the Kerry County Council in connection with their proposal to build living quarters for nurses.

I am aware that suitable living accommodation is not available for the nursing sisters attached to the county hospital and on the 10th March, 1950, a proposal of the local authority to erect a convent was approved in principle.

A sketch design for a new convent to accommodate 30 sisters was submitted on 12th June, 1951, and has been under examination in my Department. In order to complete the examination of the sketch design it has been necessary to request, on 11th July, 1951, the submission of a preliminary estimate of cost and recommendations for the civil and mechanical engineering services. On receipt of this information observations on the sketch design will be issued to the local authority without delay.
