Vol. 126 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consumption of Rationed Commodities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in lbs. per head the amount of (a) unrationed tea, and (b) unrationed sugar, consumed in 1950; further, if he will indicate whether it is proposed to increase this year the bread, butter, tea and sugar rations per head to the citizens of the Republic.

The particulars available to my Department of total sales of unrationed tea and sugar during the year 1950 include, in the case of tea, purchases by catering establishments, and, in the case of sugar, purchases by manufacturers and catering establishments. Separate particulars of domestic consumption of unrationed tea and sugar, which I assume to be the information the Deputy desires, are not available.

There is no likelihood of an early increase in the present rations of tea, sugar, bread and butter.
