Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compilation of Electoral Register.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the unsatisfactory state of the electoral register in a number of areas; and, if so, if he will arrange to have the register accurately compiled annually.

One or two instances in which electors' names have apparently been omitted in error from the current register have been brought to my notice. No complaint of a general nature has been made. If the Deputy will give me particulars of any cases within his knowledge I shall be glad to have them investigated. As I indicated in concluding the debate on the Local Government Estimate, I will have the procedure for registration examined with a view to seeing whether any improvement can be effected.

Would the Minister inquire into the fact that a person who had a vote last September had no vote in the recent general election? He voted last September but on this occasion he was off the register. I think that the register is most unsatisfactory.

Was he a supporter?

Question No. 63.
