Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seamen's Compensation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to increase the pensions and allowances at present being paid under the Irish seamen's compensation scheme to dependents of seamen who lost their lives in the mercantile service during the 1939-1945 world war.

As I indicated in reply to a similar question from the Deputy on 11th July last, the pensions and allowances paid under the Irish seamen's compensation scheme to dependents of seamen who lost their lives during the 1939-1945 war are frequently reviewed. Increases have been granted on a number of occasions since the scheme was introduced. A review of the position is in progress, but I am not yet able to say when it will be concluded or what the result of it is likely to be.
