Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maine Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the delay by his Department in regard to the carrying through of the Maine arterial drainage scheme; and, if so, whether he is now in a position to make a definite statement in the matter.

It has already been indicated by my predecessor that, while certain engineering information is available from previous inspections in the Maine catchment area, a complete and detailed engineering survey will be necessary for the purpose of formulating a comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. I am not in a position to make a definite statement as to when it will be possible to undertake the survey.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that a very exhaustive survey and detailed examination of the district was carried through some years ago? Would he now proceed with this scheme without having a new survey, which would probably hold up the scheme for another year or two?

Is this the Maigue? The Maigue was being done when I left office.

It is not the Maigue but the Maine.

Not the Maine, the Maigue.

In reply to the Deputy's supplementary question, I am advised that a complete and detailed engineering survey will be necessary for the purpose of formulating a comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.
