Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel Hospital Staff Scheme.

asked the Minister for Health if the members of the staff of the Clonmel Mental Hospital who were employed in a temporary capacity from 1922 to 1947 have signified their willingness to contribute to their superannuation scheme in accordance with Part VIII of the Mental Treatment Act; and, if so, if he will state the date on which the employees notified the local authority to this effect.

From inquiries which I have made, it appears that applications for permission to make superannuation contributions under Section 63 (5) of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945, were made as follows on behalf of employees of the Clonmel Mental Hospital authority:—

7th November, 1947

1 application

9th September, 1949

17 applications

1st November, 1950

1 application

Total

19 applications

None of these applications has, I understand, as yet been disposed of. Five other applications which were made have been dealt with.

I am informed that certain difficulties of a legal nature have arisen in dealing with the outstanding applications and that legal opinion has been sought by the mental hospital authority in the matter.
