Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Exchange Temporary Clerks.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will now state the number it is proposed to employ permanently of those who qualified in the 1950 examination held for temporary clerks serving in employment exchanges.

As I stated in reply to the Deputy's question on 5th July, 1951, the regulations for the examination referred to provided for the appointment of not less than ten candidates to posts as clerical officer should so many candidates be found qualified. Since then nine of the first ten successful candidates have been appointed and have taken up duty in my Department. The Civil Service Commissioners are dealing with the case of the remaining candidate.

I regret that I cannot at this stage say if any further candidates are likely to be appointed.
