Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Freights and Fares Increase.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the annual increased revenue which it is anticipated will accrue to Córas Iompair Éireann as a result of the increase in freights and fares under (a) rail receipts (i) passenger and (ii) goods, and (b) road receipts (i) passenger and (ii) goods.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that the increased annual revenue estimated to accrue as a result of recent increases in freights and fares is as follows:—

(a) Rail Receipts:

(i) Passenger

£173,200

(ii) Goods

£410,400

(iii) Miscellaneous

£19,400

making a total of

£603,000

(b) Road Receipts:

(i) Passenger

£448,000

(ii) Goods

£102,000

Making a total of

£550,000

(c) Canal Receipts:

In addition to the charges referred to in the question it is estimated that increased revenue amounting to £26,000 will result from increased canal freight charges, bringing the estimated total increase in revenue to

£1,179,000
