Vol. 127 No. 2

Questions— Written Answers. - Wheat under Contract.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the need for an increased acreage of wheat in the coming year, he will take steps to have wheat grown under contract at a remunerative price in the same way as sugar-beet so that growers may receive seeds and fertilisers on credit, if they so desire, and other special facilities and so that efficient arrangements can be made in advance for the collection and drying of the grain.

I have carefully considered this suggestion and have discussed it with representatives of the growers. I do not, however, regard such a scheme as practicable in existing circumstances.
