Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Seed Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will procure a supply of Scottish Sandy oats and Potato oats for the small farmers of West Donegal for seed during the spring of 1952.

Mr. Walsh

I take it that the Deputy refers to my Department's seed oats distribution scheme for congested areas. I do not propose to buy Scottish seed oats for the purposes of that scheme, as I am satisfied that home-grown Sandy and Potato seed oats, of which ample supplies of good quality are expected to be available, are as suitable as imported seed for West Donegal.

Is the Minister aware that even his own Department officials have advised that Scotch Sandy oats is the best type for this particular locality?

Mr. Walsh

We claim that our own Sandy oats is equally as good.
