Vol. 127 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 8.

Mr. O'Higgins

Could the Tánaiste say when No. 3 will be taken?

Not to-day.

Mr. O'Higgins

I know.

Before you proceed to the next business, Sir, might I direct your attention to question No. 26 on to-day's Order Paper, addressed by Deputy Seán Brady to the Minister for Finance. On the course of Deputy Brady's supplementary question I take it that he has made an allegation that Deputy Norton——

That is not in order.

I hope that I can have this matter dealt with without being told by the Clerk of this House. I will take dictation from an officer or official of this House at no time. The Chair knows how to do its job.

This is completely out of order.

I desire to inform the Chair that Deputy Brady made an allegation that Deputy Norton put moneys to uses other than those for which they were intended.

I submit respectfully that the reference made to an officer of the Dáil was in very bad taste.

The Clerk of the Dáil told the Chair to rule me out and it was none of his business.

No Deputy should be permitted to make a reference to an official of the Dáil who has no means of replying.

The Deputy has been ruled out of order.

It has not been the practice that the Chair should be dictated to by the Clerk of the Dáil. The Clerk of the Dáil is a paid official who is paid to do his job.

The Deputy is out of order.

Does that mean that Deputy Brady's allegation still stands that Deputy Norton put moneys——

I will deal with this in another place again.
