Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Navigation Lights.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the date that his predecessor sanctioned payment of the cost of erection of a navigational light on Bloodyforeland, County Donegal, and if it is proposed to carry out the work, when it will commence.

Sanction to the making of a State grant of the cost of erecting a guiding light at Bloodyforeland was given in December, 1949. The Deputy will be aware from replies given to previous questions asked by him that work cannot be commenced until the Donegal County Council have acquired the necessary site and right-of-way.

I have received the same reply to this question on three different occasions. If an approach was made to the county council I think it would make for a general improvement.

As the Deputy is aware, certain formalities have to be complied with and the county council had great difficulty in getting the conveyance signed by a number of the people by reason of the fact that some of them had died and some were away. Perhaps their legal representatives are there. There is one thing I can assure the Deputy that I propose to have the work put in hand in the very near future.

I appreciate that.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the urgent necessity for a navigation light at Curransport, County Donegal, during the winter period of herring fishing at the port; and, if so, if he will take steps to have it erected at the earliest possible moment.

The provision of guiding lights is being considered in connection with the proposal for the construction of a pier at Curransport, which is under examination.
