Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skibbereen-Schull Tram.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate what is the intended future of the Skibbereen-Schull tram.

As has been explained to the Deputy on previous occasions, the Minister for Industry and Commerce has since the passing of the Transport Act, 1950, no function in regard to the closing of Córas Iompair Éireann branch lines. Before services could be permanently discontinued on any branch lines, Córas Iompair Éireann would have to obtain an order from the Transport Tribunal in accordance with the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950. Notice would have to be published and such objections as may be made by interested parties must be considered by the tribunal.

In view of the fact that there has been a very strong local rumour that this entire affair would be disposed of, would the Minister make inquiries now and let me know if such is the intention?

If Córas Iompair Éireann propose to seek an exemption order under the provisions of the 1950 Act in respect of this branch line they will have to give public notice of their intention.
