Vol. 128 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Bog Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is prepared to recommend the payment of a grant under the bog development scheme to Kerry County Council for the making of a road into Banemore bog, Listowel, County Kerry, in view of the fact that about 2,000 tons of first quality turf were cut and saved on the bog this year by Kerry County Council, and that the bog in question is most suitable for development.

The Kerry County Council were informed in June last that State grants for the development of this bog would not be justified at that stage if turf production on the bog were to be undertaken in the 1951 season only. Following a request by the council for reconsideration of the matter, the Department asked for further particulars, with special reference to future production. When all these particulars have been furnished the matter will be further considered.
