Vol. 129 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corrib River Survey.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the survey of the Corrib-Clare-Dalgan sinking river for arterial drainage has been completed; and, if so, the date when it was completed.

The field work of the engineering survey of the Corrib-Clare catchment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, was completed in December, 1951; and the plotting of the survey data is proceeding with a view to the preparation of the design of a drainage scheme for the catchment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary tell us when he expects the Corrib to be finished?

The chief engineer and other members of the engineering staff in my Department have informed me that the summer of 1953 will be the earliest date on which the machinery will enter upon the Corrib.

That is very strange in view of the fact that the information and advice I got was early in 1952. Remembering that the survey has been completed since last December, as stated by the Parliamentary Secretary, and that the survey was going on for the past three years, I fail to understand what will keep the job from completion until 1953, if it is not some further saving.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that Deputy Donnellan fooled the people in County Kerry?

I gave them one scheme which they would never have got without me.

He did not fool the Kerry people half as much as you fooled them.
