asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will state (a) the number of applications for telephone service outstanding on 13/6/1951 and the number which have since been attended to and (b) the number likely to be dealt with up to 30/6/1952 as a result of engineering projects which were on hand or in the course of preparation on 13/6/1951.

(a) The number of applications for telephone service outstanding on the 30th June, 1951, which is the nearest date for which figures are available was 6,300.

The number of these attended to from 30th June to the 31st December, 1951 was 1,960. The total number of applications completed for this period was 3,445.

(b) It is not possible to give the estimate required without particulars of the precise engineering projects the Deputy has in mind.
