Vol. 129 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Help for Six Counties Areas.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will introduce proposals for legislation on the lines of the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952, in so far as is practicable to help certain areas in the Six Counties such as Fermanagh, where conditions similar to those covered by the Act obtain.

In my view it would be impracticable to operate legislation passed by the Oireachtas on the general lines of the Undeveloped Areas Act to assist localities in the Six Counties.

Having regard to the systematic attempt which has been made to victimise the nationalist population in such areas as County Fermanagh, would the Minister for Industry and Commerce consider the possibility of promoting the development of industries with Irish capital in these areas, with the assistance of the Government?

That is rather a separate question and I would like to have notice of it.

Surely it arises from this. Would the Minister not consider this matter and discuss it with the Government?

More sterling investments.

At least in Ireland, not in England.
