Vol. 129 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Citizens in Britain.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if his attention has been directed to a statement, in reference to the British Prevention of Violence (Temporary Provisions) Acts, 1939, which provides in the case of certain Irish citizens for expulsion from and prohibitions from entering Great Britain, made in the British House of Commons on 15th November, 1951, by Mr. Ede, M.P., a former Home Secretary, in the course of which he said that he was not at all sure that the present Government of the Irish Republic would not be very relieved if Great Britain allowed these people to come to Great Britain instead of excluding them from their shores for certainly he knew that they were the subject of grave anxiety to the Irish Government and whether, in view of this statement, he will indicate if the Irish Government made any representations or expressed any anxiety to the British Government on this matter; and, if so, the nature thereof.

No statement such as that referred to by the Deputy was made to the British Government.
