Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that tenants on the Hickey estate, Upper Ballinvarrig, Youghal, are entitled to a right of way to the river for the purpose of watering stock, etc., and that the Land Commission have failed to make this right of way available, and further, if he is aware that pumps provided on the Hickey estate to supply domestic water for the tenants have been going dry during the summer months and that, despite repeated requests by me during the past few years, no steps have been taken by the Land Commission to deepen the pumps and provide a satisfactory water supply; and, if so, what action he now proposes to take in the matter.

The statement in the first part of the question is incorrect. The allottees on the Hickey estate have been provided with access to the river for the purpose of watering stock and removing water. It is proposed to deepen the well on the estate so as to ensure an adequate supply of water.
