Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vacancy for Housing Inspector.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to advertise the post of housing inspector for the West Cork and Kerry area now vacant some considerable time.

The Deputy is presumably referring to the death last year of an officer assigned to the West Cork area. Since then the areas have been adjusted and inspectors are assigned as the volume of work in the different areas warrants. The question of advertising a post for a particular district does not arise.

Is the Minister aware that, owing to the death of this official, extra work has been placed on another official with the result that inspections are held up in many parts of the area?

I replied to a similar allegation by the Deputy some time ago and stated that my information did not confirm that state of affairs. The inspections are not severely in arrears.

I state quite clearly that they are completely in arrears.

I can only be guided by the figures supplied to me by my Department.
