Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Corporation Rent Charges.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the rents charged by Cork Corporation for houses completed in each of the financial years 1945-46 to the present date and the basis on which they were fixed indicating whether Government grants or subsidies were taken into consideration in each case.

As the reply includes a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement.

The following rents have been approved by my Department in respect of the schemes mentioned:—

It is not possible to indicate specific financial years for the completion of each scheme as a whole. The houses completed in a financial year may be included in a number of different schemes. The Deputy might obtain precise information in this matter by inquiry from the housing authority.

In normal differential renting schemes State grants and subsidies are not taken into account in determining the economic rent on which differential renting systems are based but in the case of Cork County Borough the system has been in operation over a number of years and I am not in a position to indicate the circumstances taken into account when the several renting systems operating in those years were adopted.
