Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Potatoes to Alcohol Factories.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state if any increase in price will be paid to farmers for the potatoes sold by them to alcohol factories, in view of the statement recently made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce that all alcohol produced in this country would be exported at a remunerative price.

Mr. Walsh

No. The increased price of £6 per ton was fixed in the light of the information contained in the statement referred to.

May I ask the Minister if he is aware that in North Mayo, when the price of bags and other deductions are taken into consideration, the farmers actually receive a price of only £4 10s. and what steps does he propose to take to have this price increased?

Mr. Walsh

The price is already made at £6 per ton delivered to the factory.

There are certain deductions.

Mr. Walsh

I know.

They receive only £4 10s. a ton.

Do not use bags.
