Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tillage Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, as an incentive to increased tillage with resultant extra production of wheat, beet and animal foodstuffs, he will consider the provision of a tillage subsidy to offset the increased cost of labour, fertilisers, machinery, etc. to farmers.

Mr. Walsh

I am not prepared to consider the provision of a tillage subsidy. I regard the prices already guaranteed in respect of certain crops and those which may be expected for others as adequate inducement to farmers to increase the area under tillage.
