Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Live Stock Statistics.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the agricultural statistics for June, 1951, reveal substantial decreases as compared with 1950 in the following important categories: (1) milch cows, (2) heifers-in-calf, (3) calves under one year, (4) breeding sows, (5) poultry and (6) tillage crops and whether he has satisfied himself that adequate steps are being taken to correct these economically disastrous trends.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware of the comparative statistical figures referred to by the Deputy. I am doing everything in my power to urge the need for increased agricultural production generally and, with the co-operation of the farming community, I hope to be successful.
