Vol. 129 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naas Boys' School.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the fact that the present boys' schools in Naas are altogether inadequate and structurally unsuitable for use as schools; whether he has received proposals from the local manager to have new schools erected; whether these proposals have been considered and approved; whether plans have been prepared for the provision of new schools and when it is likely tenders will be invited for the erection of the schools.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of the erection of a new school to replace the present Naas Christian Brothers' National School. It is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works to make the arrangements for the erection of the new school. I understand that the commissioners are having the preparation of the detailed drawings and specification for the school put in hands. When this work has been completed it will be necessary to have bills of quantities prepared before tenders are invited by the commissioners.

I am not at present in a position to say when it is likely that tenders will be invited.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the amount of the grant sanctioned in respect of this school?

The amount of the grant sanctioned is £15,750.
