Vol. 129 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification Extension.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will say when the Electricity Supply Board propose to extend rural electrification to the following districts in County Cork: Cloughduv, Carragnavar and Minane Bridge.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that work on the erection of network in the Cloughduv area under the rural electrification scheme will commence immediately and that it is expected that work in the Carragnavar area will be undertaken towards the end of June next.

The Minane Bridge area was not successful when recently considered by the board for development under the scheme, as the economic return for the area did not compare favourably with that of other areas.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a survey of the rural electrification unit at Feenagh, County Limerick, has been made by the Electricity Supply Board and that it has been declared an economic unit, and if, in view of the fact that the area embraces two large dairy co-operative societies, which would guarantee an annual extra income of approximately £400, he will state when it is likely that the Electricity Supply Board will commence operations in the area in question.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Feenagh rural area and other areas in the vicinity will be considered for development at the end of this month. At this stage it is not possible to indicate if the Feenagh area will be selected.
