Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Possible Devaluation of Sterling.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether, in the course of the recent discussions which he had with the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, he received any indication that the pound sterling would again be devalued, or allowed to find its value freely on the foreign exchanges; and, if so, whether he expressed any views in regard to such a step; and, if so, the nature of the views expressed.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the possible devaluation of sterling was discussed at the recent conference between Ministers of this country and British Ministers; and, if so, whether he will state what views were expressed thereon by our Ministers on behalf of the Government.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together. The answer to both questions is "no".

Did the Minister inquire?

I am not in the habit of divulging confidential discussions.

He will not tell us what the answer was.
