Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Accidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (a) the number of road accidents, and (b) the number of such accidents resulting in fatal injuries which occurred in the year ending 31st December, 1951; giving comparative figures for the year 1950.

Mr. Boland

The number of road accidents recorded by the Garda Síochána in 1951 was 8,105, of which 239 resulted in fatal injuries. The corresponding figures for 1950 were 8,107 and 207.

I wonder would the Minister be able to have an analysis of the ages of drivers involved in these accidents made——

Mr. Boland

I will find out.

——and consider whether it would warrant the institution of driving tests before the granting of a driver's licence?

Mr. Boland

I will look into it.
