Vol. 129 No. 7

Arrival and Departure of Deputies.

I should like to inquire whether the members of the Oireachtas are to be given an explanation as to why the times of their arrival and departure at the Dáil have been recorded at the front gate. I understand that this practice was inaugurated within the past week. It is a matter of interest to the members of the House. I think they are entitled to an explanation as to why this practice has been taken up and by whose authority.

I understand that the matter was initiated in order to check up on the amount of time it is necessary for ushers and attendants to spend at the gate.

On whose initiative was it started?

The matter, as far as I am concerned, will be investigated fully.

In any consideration given to this matter and in counting the number of people coming in, will Deputies and Senators get a particular weight—as is said in statistical language—as against other people coming in?
