Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Galway Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position regarding the acquisition and distribution of the Ardfry estate, Oranmore, the property of Mrs. Storr, Isle of Wight, and whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the estate in part or whole; and, if so, with what result.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of the greater portion of this estate and are well advanced.

I would ask the Minister if he will reconsider that decision because this estate has been let to local congests for the past 30 years — the total estate and not part of it. The only relief they had for the relief of congestion was the renting of this land. In view of that fact, I would ask that the whole estate should be acquired and divided amongst the local congests for their relief.
