Vol. 129 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Turf.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the large undeveloped tracts of turbary in the neighbourhood of Ballygar, County Galway, he will request Bord na Móna to develop the area by the establishment of a machine-won turf plant.

Bord na Móna has surveyed a number of bogs in the neighbourhood of Ballygar, County Galway, but there are major arterial drainage difficulties which hamper the economic development of these bogs. The drainage problem is under consideration by the board.

Could the Minister say when the survey was carried out?

I understand that the board are considering the arterial drainage aspect of the problem at the moment.
