Vol. 129 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuam Unemployed.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, having regard to the present considerable number of registered unemployed in the town of Tuam, as divulged in reply to a question on the 6th March, 1952, he will state what steps it is proposed to take to provide employment for these people.

The number, of persons registered at the local office of my Department at Tuam on Saturday last, the 8th March, 1952, was 169, which is a decrease of 27 as compared with the corresponding day in 1951.

I would like to point out to the Deputy that it is not a function of my Department to provide employment.
