Vol. 129 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Turf Generating Stations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether proposals have been received in his Department for the establishment of a turf generating station in North Kerry and also one in South Kerry; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

The Electricity Supply Board, in conjunction with Bord na Móna, is examining the possibility of utilising hand-won turf either alone or with turf produced by semi-automatic machines in small generating stations in bog areas which are not suitable for large-scale machine development. The examination of the various aspects of this problem will take some time but the merits of the County Kerry bogs will receive careful consideration in connection with any such projects.
